Makerettes is our all-girls maker club founded by DHF Youth member Sierra in 2015. Makerettes was created so that girls could inspire each other to learn tech skills and make things! We formed Makerettes after realizing that girls were leaving DHF after they completed Maker Foundations because they felt awkward, being one of just a few girls.
Makerettes was founded to increase involvement from female program participants and aim to increase retention of girls in our program. We want to give female participants an opportunity to form bonds with one another, as well as the women on staff, and feel as comfortable as possible here. Makerettes sets aside time for the girls and women to build relationships with one another and encourage new friendships through maker projects and unique experiences.
Makerettes is open to all middle school and high school females who are participants in DHF programs.
